Classroom Guidance Lessons
I love getting to spend time in classrooms teaching whole group lessons. It gives me a chance to see all my students. Sometimes, a teacher may request that I visit the classroom to discuss and issue occurring in the classroom (in addition to regular classroom guidance). Classroom lessons are very important for prevention and building rapport with not only students, but teachers as well. It is important for school counselors to advocate for our time. |
What Does a Counselor Teach??
School counselors focus on three domains: Academic Development, Social/Personal Development, and Career Development. When I visit classes, I spend approximately 45 minutes with each class. I see each class every two weeks. We are very busy during our time together. If you walked in during my class time, you may see students working in small groups, team "competitions", students interacting on the smart board, or students simply engaged in whole group discussion. Oh, you may even see dancing! We have a great time. The best part is that students are learning in a fun and non threatening way! I love that my kiddos are excited to see me enter their classroom. Their hugs, smiles, and love make my day! Click here to see list of themes typically taught thorough out the year. |
