In 2015, our students participated in the Great Kindness Challenge to assist with breaking the world record for kindness handprints. They were so excited about breaking a world record. They were equally excited to know their handprints were going to California! We also celebrated with a Kindness Week. Click here to see the parent newsletter.
For the 2016 school year, we focused on RAK week in February.

For the 2014-2015 school year, our fourth and fifth grade students participated in a Career Fair in which they chose four presentations to attend. We had a variety of presenters: Massage Therapy, Engineering, Human Resources, Lawyer, Gulfstream Airplane Interior Design (A HUGE HIT!!), City Mayor, and Nursing. We celebrated school wide with a College and Career Week. Click here for the parent newsletter.
Please see my BLOG for the 2015-2016 school year Career on Wheels event! The kids loved it and my principal hopped in the race car!

Morning Announcements
I am also over our morning announcements each morning. We are a live show and our students love to be news anchors! News anchors discuss events happening at school, read the lunch menu, and discuss the weather. During morning announcements, we also show a "Just Dance" video to get the brain and body going for the day. We also use morning announcements to show our PBIS video of the week. We love to use Kid President, too! Who doesn't love Kid President?!?! |
I also spearhead our Backpack Buddies Program.
Backpack Buddies is a 100% volunteer organization that relies solely on donations. We have two fantastic churches that sponsor our school. We hope to add another sponsor for the 2015-2016 school year so that more of our population can be served! Children should not go to school hungry or without proper clothing, shoes or school supplies. We believe going to school prepared will help them learn and be better able to finish school and go beyond the cycle of poverty into which they were born. Why Backpack Buddies? Research shows that hungry children have poorer mental and overall health, miss more days of school, suffer greater rates of behavioral disorders and are less prepared to learn when they are in school. Our volunteers pack bags with nutritious, child-friendly, self-serve food designed to put in a backpack and feed a child over the weekend. Click here for our Permission Form for the 2015-2016 school year. Parents can also complete the permission form to be placed on the waiting list. |
We also have several volunteers/business partners that help our students with school supplies. Many students do not come to school with basic supplies. This can be draining on a classroom teacher. Imagine 23 students needing paper, glue, pencils, crayons, erasers, etc. Students lose pencils like crazy, too. Where they go, we don't know! Unfortunately, school systems do not supply these to schools. It is solely up to the teacher to supply his/her classroom in cases such as this. Imagine if you had 23 children who needed school supplies. Imagine the cost. Lucky for you, I can give you an estimated cost of just basic supplies for an elementary school student. Basic supplies to last through the year can cost $25-$30 dollars per student. Therefore, it would cost a teacher $575-$690. This cost would come directly out of pocket for the teacher. Please note, this does not include the cost of a backpack, clothing, shoes, binders, or calculators.
We are always looking for organizations or individuals that want to help build our school supply closet! If you would like to donate, please contact me, Stacey Lawson, at 912-395-6742 or by email: [email protected]
In addition to school supplies, we also appreciate uniform assistance donations. Luckily, we had a church (one of our backpack buddies sponsors) that assisted with new clothing for many of our needy students for the 2014-2015 school year. If you would like to assist with uniforms, please contact me at the number or email address above. We certainly appreciate the generosity of those that help our students!!!
