Positive Behavior and Intervention Support Program
at Port Wentworth Elementary
We have a terrific PBIS program at PWES! We are the Pelicans, so our students earn "Pelican Bucks" for displaying appropriate behavior. Students can earn RED Pelican Bucks for showing school wide expectations (classroom, hallways, etc.) and BLUE Pelican Bucks for showing good character toward another classmate, teacher, staff member, or guest in our building. I operate the Pelican Store the last Friday of the month where students come to shop and spend their Pelican Bucks. Only having PreK-2nd this year, it makes PBIS rewards much easier! Let me tell you, our kiddos LOVE the Pelican Store. I am asked about the Pelican Store every day! Our school was incredibly blessed to receive a significant monetary donation from one our business partners, so I am able to stock the store with various items. Students have to have a minimum of 3 Pelican Bucks to shop. Prices on the tables range from 3 Pelican Bucks to 40 Pelican Bucks. I joke with staff members that our students have their very own "Dollar Tree". Some items remain all year, as they are big sellers. I rotate different items in as well. I also offer several "Tickets" that students can purchase, such as:
Movie Ticket with Popcorn (or Ice Cream): 30 Pelican Bucks
Lunch with the Principal: 30 Pelican Bucks
Lunch with the Assistant Principal: 30 Pelican Bucks
Lunch with the Counselor: 30 Pelican Bucks
Lunch with a Friend (in a different class): 40 Pelican Bucks
Morning Announcements (5 days): 30 Pelican Bucks
Homework Pass: 30 Pelican Bucks
Frames and Games Gift Card: 100 Pelican Bucks
Sometimes, I receive awesome toy/merchandise donations! These items can range from 30-200 Pelican Bucks. Below are pictures from our very first store in September. I took them at the end of the day when I had a moment to catch my breath! Our store begins at 9:15am and ends typically at 2:45pm. And then it's off to the races for Backpack Buddies. I have approximately 30 minutes to deliver 35 backpack buddies before students are dismissed. It's always a frantic day on Pelican Store days! I have several parent volunteers who help me with the store. Without them, there is no way I could do it alone.

Here are pictures of our last Pelican Store. It was open all week the last week of school. Students were able to spend all their hard earned Pelican Bucks before summer! |
