It's that time of year to begin classes with the counselor! Teachers are in a routine and the students keep asking me when I am coming to visit them! For the first lesson, I always do an Introduction to the Counselor, or for some, a "re-introduction to the counselor. This year, since we are now a K-2 school, I decided to do one theme for all introductory classes: SUPER HERO's! Who doesn't love Super Hero's?? I have a very brief Powerpoint that will cover things about me (a get to know me) and my role as a school counselor (what does a school counselor do?). We will also discuss what to expect out of my classes. We will discuss the types of topics that I will talk about when I visit them in their classrooms. Lastly, we will talk about how to be Super Hero students at PWES.
How can we be Super Hero's at PWES?
* To start, we can be good students. That includes listening and paying attention.
* We can be kind and friendly to all classmates.
* We can make good decisions and if we don't, we figure out how to make the situation
better.
* We can learn about ourselves and others. We can embrace who we are--know our strengths and weaknesses.
* We can solve conflicts peacefully.
* We can learn how to be a great friend.
I love to try to find a "craft-tivity" to do with my students. It doesn't always work out for each lesson, of course, but the kids love it when they can also make something to take home or to show others. Students will make a Super Hero girl or boy. I found the template on TPT. Click here for the website.
